The enemy is the other party

By Phil Boas

The Arizona Republic

We're living in a time of historic polarization according to a Pew Research Center survey.  Fully 36 percent of Republicans and 27 percent of Democrats see the other party not just negatively but as a threat to the nation.

These folks should experience life in a one-party state.  A bit of that and they'll look longingly across the aisle for the other guys.

[You don't have to waste your money on a local newspaper that does little more than shill for the mayor.  For home delivery of the Republic, call toll-free 1-800-332-6733.  It's the only newspaper you need.  Unless, of course, you have more money than you know what to do with.  Like the guy with the $2.7 million mansion in Chaparral Pines who will soon have a brand new swimming pool thanks to Mayor Evans.]

Is the drought any less severe in the valley?

Anyone there can have a pool, even people without money.

So why don't you (and the Republic) beat them up?

Nobody said the Valley is perfect, but what about two wrongs not making a right? This is our home. This is our water. We need to look after it.

You have to wonder if there are gated communities in heaven? Would Jesus live in a gated community?

If I wanted to steal somebody's stuff, I'd go right to a gated community. That's where it's at. What do these people think they're accomplishing with their secret passwords and sweetheart deals?

When the people get sick of tired of all the inequality, I wouldn't want to be living in a gated community. And they will.

Preach that everyone should be equal, live in peace and harmony, etc.

Then threaten violence or theft if you don't get what you want.

Hypocrite

What part of "if" and "when" didn't you get? If you feel threatened by me, you're paranoid.

Sorry, but I have little sympathy for people who take more money than they'll ever need and shut themselves off from the peasants behind iron gates and secret passwords.

And how about a real name. You're hiding behind your gate and your anonymity.

Threatened by you personally? You're kidding right?

Not everyone that lives in a gated community is wealthy. Far from it. Some choose to live in an area that affords them just that little extra sense of security. I've lived in the ghetto, but chose to get out, so now I'm a bad guy.

I work very hard for what I have. You're hating me because I didn't choose to sit on my ass and "get a check" or not strive to do better and not settle for an entry level position.

I chose to get an excellent education, develop my skills and succeed at my chosen profession. Shouldn't someone be rewarded for hard work?

Or do you think that someone that settles for flipping burgers should have the same standard of living as those who choose to better themselves, just in the name of "equality".

We are all created equal. What we do after that is a personal choice.

And yes I do take it as a threat that some one will take what I worked hard for just because they don't feel equal.

If you don't feel equal then try getting a better education, developing skills and better yourself instead of taking from those that have.

Oh Lord, where do I begin. First, you haven't yet explained why you are afraid to tell us who you are. Because we might come and get you, I presume?

Second, you have come out of your shell as far as your politics - you are now spouting the far right line to a T - I've worked hard therefore I deserve more. Anybody else could do the same. I never had any opportunities the 47 percent of lazy people didn't have. I've worked hard so I deserve to live high on the hog while the rest of you ingrates suffer like you deserve.

Sorry, but we are not all created equal. You rich people just seem to thing so. How convenient and self-serving.

So sorry you're afraid somebody is going to come and take your stuff. Boo!

Why do you call yourself "ingrates"? I never did.

Why do you call yourself "lazy"? I never did.

Don't you respect yourself?

Why do you only demand that someone identify themselves only when they voice a different opinion than yours? I guess everything is fine as long we we agree with you.

Typical liberal response. You never address the issue raised and defend your position. Instead you just attack and name call.

You still never answered my initial question or the second, or any of them.

Need more straw?

Flipping burgers, digging ditches, etc is very hard work. I respect that and the people that did those jobs. I did them, and tougher ones. But you don't have to settle for that. The opportunity is there. Use it.

If you take away the incentive to better yourself, then why do the extra work? If we all get the same no matter what, no one would do anything.

I never said I was afraid of anyone taking my stuff. I take it as a threat and will deal with it if it happens.
