Tonto Forest fuelwood permit system for 2013

New permit system begins April 1 with slight modification

 

Phoenix (March 27, 2013) – Two types of fuelwood permits will be available, Paid Personal Use Fuelwood Permits and Free Personal Use Fuelwood Permits. The cutting season is from April 1 – December 31 annually. Maps and instructions are provided with each permit.

“In past years the paid personal use fuelwood permit cost $25 for a 4-cord permit with a maximum of 2 permits (8 cords) annually per household,” said Kitty Tattersall, administrative forester.

“This year we are offering permits for $10 per cord (2 cord minimum purchase).  Users can cut up to 10 cords annually. The new system offers our customers more flexibility in the amount of wood they can collect during the season,” she concluded.

Paid Personal Use Fuelwood Permit:

A permit allows cutting of dead/down trees (all species), dead standing Juniper/Cypress up to 18 in. diameter at the base, and dead standing pine up to 12 in. (diameter measured 4 ½ ft. above ground.)

Up to 10 cords are available under this category at $10.00 per cord (2 cord minimum purchase).

The permits are for sale at all six ranger district offices. Cutting areas inlude portions of Payson, Pleasant Valley, Globe and Tonto Basin ranger districts.

Free Personal Use Fuelwood Permit:

Payson And Pleasant Valley ranger districts only.  Permit allows cutting of dead/down Ponderosa Pine and Pinyon Pine and dead-standing pine up to 12 in. diameter (measured at 4 ½ ft. from ground level.)

Four cords of free use fuelwood collected with a free use permit may not be resold. Limit of one free-use permit per household per year.

Permits are issued at Payson, Pleasant Valley, Tonto Basin and Globe ranger districts. Free use pine may be cut on portions of Payson And Pleasant Valley ranger districts ONLY.

Free Personal Use Driftwood Permit:

Cave Creek and Tonto Basin ranger district cutting areas -  Permit allows cutting dead/down driftwood at Bartlett, Horseshoe and Roosevelt lakes.

Two cord, free-use permit for Horseshoe and Bartlett lakes available at the Cave Creek Ranger District Office. One permit per household per year.

Two cord, free-use permit for Roosevelt Lake is available at the Tonto Basin District Office. One permit per household per year.

Fuelwood permits are not sold at the Tonto National Forest Supervisor’s Office.
