American West artist Ahrendt is PAL speaker

Payson Art League Monthly Meeting and Presentation
February 19, 2013 – 6 p.m.

William (Bill) Ahrendt, a renowned local artist, will give a presentation on the definitions of art terminology and principles at the February 19 Payson Art League monthly meeting.

After living and studying art in Germany for eleven years, Ahrendt returned home, completed his Master’s Degree in Art History and became the Art Department Chairperson at Glendale Community College. After retiring, he made his home in Pine.

Known as a historical narrative artist, Ahrendt paints the American western experience in the narrative form employed by the great painters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. He believes art is not the paint alone, but a medium for communication between the viewer and the artist. His work can be found in museums and is collected by many patrons throughout the world.

Ahrendt has found that art students often have an inaccurate understanding of the art terms they use in conversation, sometimes leading those who view their artwork to question the quality or value of it.

The presentation will cover a list of art terms and art principles Ahrendt believes to be important and interesting. He points out that these terms are used in other areas such as photography and interior design. He will bring to the presentation a list of art terms and discuss what people think they mean and how to use them in conversation.
 
Ahrendt encourages everyone to come to the presentation with art terms they would like clarified and discussed.

The public is invited to join art league members Tuesday, February 19 at 6 p.m. at the Rim Country Health and Retirement Center, 807 W. Longhorn. Light refreshments will be served.
