Republic's Robb tells it like it is...

It is truly a rare occasion when we agree with anything written by the Arizona Republic's right wing editorial writer Robert Robb.  Today, Sunday, Oct. 7, was one of those times.

In today's column, Robb expresses his admiration for former congressman Sam Steiger, who recently passed away, and for Democratic congressional candidate Kyrsten Sinema for her "cheerful brand of politics."  Of Sinema calling herself a "Prada socialist," Robb writes:

"This was obviously a self parody, poking fun at her liberal political leanings and obsession with stylish clothes.  It's funny.

"If we turn our politicians into poll-tested automatons, afraid that the next thing they say will be turned into an ad against them, Arizona poltics will be both duller and less productive."

Robb also takes exception to Jeff Flake's attack on Democrat Richard Carmona because he owns shares in a mutual fund that owned shares in tobacco companies. Robb wonders why this "should be regarded as a serious character flaw in a guy with two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts."  Of Flake's attack, he says:

"I guess the thinking is that there's no harm in swinging away at everything.  But there is.

"It reduces the credibility of attacks that really matter."

Thank you, Mr. Robb, for telling it like it is.  And by the way, you can have the Republic delivered to your door seven days a week by calling 1-800-332-6733.

It's the best newspaper value in the Rim Country.  The Roundup, incidentally, was defeated for best little newspaper in the state at the Arizona Newspapers Association Competition last week.
