Payson woman awarded $7.3 million

Developed staph infection after
surgery at Payson Healthcare

A Payson woman was awarded $7.3 million from Payson Healthcare Management by Gila County Superior Court jury after developing a life-threatening infection following a knee surgery according to a story in the Business section of today's (July 20) Arizona Republic.

Lori Sandretto, 53, developed an "aggressive staph infection" following the surgery performed three years ago and will never walk normally again, according to her attorney, Tom McGovern.  Her physician from the Payson orthopedic clinic was on vacation when the infection was discovered and she was cared for by the clinic's physician assistant.

"Representatives of Payson Healthcare Management did not return a phone call," the Republic said.
