O Editor, Editor, Wherefore art thou Editor?

Being intimately familiar with both the Humane Society of Central Arizona and the English language, please allow us to provide a couple of corrections to Roundup Reporter Pete Aleshire's story in yesterday's edition.

1. The president of the HSCAZ board is Bill Enlund, not Enland.

2. The story contains a comma splice, a fundamental English mistake, and one for which college freshman English students are held strictly accountable.  In quoting HSCAZ board member Diane Reid, Aleshire wrote: “It creates a perception of chaos and disorganization when there is chatter about this, it’s like a virus..."  As survivors of English 101 have learned, the quote should have been punctuated with a period or semicolon - not a comma.

If Publisher John Naughton were so inclined, he could adapt a famous line from Shakespeare: An editor, an editor!  My kingdom for an editor!
