Sorry folks, but we just can't resist this one - which we offer very tongue-in-cheek.
The English language has a new word, and it originated right here in Payson, Arizona. Now, when you go out to breakfast, you are apparently a "breakfastgoer" -- at least according to your Payson Roundup.
The word appeared on the front page of the July 15 issue of the local newspaper in connection with a story about a small plane encountering wind and crashing off the side of the runway at the Payson airport, giving "breakfastgoers" at the Crosswinds Restaurant a front row view of the festivities.
Only problem: there is no such word as "breakfastgoer." Closest we could find is "breakfaster."
We understand Ms. Bechman is relatively young, so she gets a Mulligan on this one. Not so the editor, whose job it is to catch such things and fix them.
And notice, we aren't even touching the related issue of whether there wasn't something more important than wind blowing an airplane (all the passengers survived) to occupy that space on the front page.

Once upon a time our local paper had some journalistic standards. Not so in this brave new era, where the primary goal is being the only newspaper/voice in town.
