Time Out gets grant from Phoenix Coyotes

Payson, AZ December 15, 2010: Women and children seeking safety and refuge from domestic violence can take advantage of a vast array of services and personalized help from Time Out, Inc. with a recent grant awarded by Phoenix Coyotes Charities. Gila County’s sole full-service domestic violence service provider, Time Out offers extensive support for abuse survivors, ranging from crisis response and emergency shelter to long term transitional housing.

The Phoenix Coyotes Charities’ community grants program focuses on the health and well-being of youth through community awareness, disseminating information, providing support, and treatment or preventative care. With Phoenix Coyotes Charities support, Time Out will serve up to 66 children in the domestic violence shelter over a one-year period. Children will receive family therapy and age-appropriate personal development workshops addressing self esteem, violence prevention, and safety, attend after-school activities including a Mother/Child Healing Garden, and receive help to connect with other needed community resources. The grant funds will also help Time Out to provide essential items for shelter residents, such as transportation, food, educational supplies, and supportive services in emergency situations.

“This grant comes at a critical time, as Arizona’s victim service organizations are still struggling to stay afloat during a time of increased demand for services among vulnerable women and children.” adds Gerry Bailey, Executive Director.

“Children are often considered as secondary victims and not the primary target for family violence intervention, yet their exposure to violence in the home can have serious and lasting effects,” explained Time Out Board of Directors Chairperson Sandra Litkenhaus. “We greatly value the Phoenix Coyote’s show of support for family safety and well-being in Gila County.”
