Bill Jones, big fan of God's Country, dies at 84

William Alfred (Bill) Jones
1926 - 2010

William Alfred (Bill) Jones (Bill), 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 3, 2010, at Hospice Compassus in Payson, Arizona. Bill was born and raised in Prescott, Ariz., joined the Navy at 17 in 1943, and became an electrician aboard the aircraft carrier Bennington, stationed in the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1947, returned to Prescott and began working for Arizona Power Company.

Bill retired from APS in 1983 after working for the company as a line foreman and construction supervisor for 25 years. His crew provided power from Payson to the top of the Mogollon Rim and communities south to Tonto Basin.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne, daughter Cindy Lewis and her husband John, and four grandchildren: Logan, Brianna, Connor, and McKenzie Lewis.

Bill lived a long, fulfilled life! He loved living in "God’s Country" below the Mogollon Rim and was happiest fishing, camping, traveling, and enjoying his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main Street, in Payson. A reception will follow the service at Green Valley Park.
