Hike for Humanity sponsored by Amnesty International—Payson chapter from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Cypress/Boulder Trail beginning at the east end of Phoenix Street. Hikers from all walks of life, please come to support Amnesty International’s efforts to free the three American hikers held for over a year in Iran. This is an easy, self-paced hike for all to enjoy. FLW Day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Green Valley Park. Sponsored by the Town of Payson, the free outdoor festival will provide the opportunity to meet several professional fishermen that will compete in the following week's (Wednesday, Sept. 22 through Saturday, Sept. 25) FLW National Guard, Western Series Championship at Roosevelt Lake. Activities will include: Arizona Game and Fish Department Free Family Fishing day with loaner rods and bait; Outdoor Expo at Green Valley Park Amphitheater including outdoor recreation retailers, arts and crafts vendors and food; media session where you can "Meet the Pros!" including professional bass fishermen Clifford Pirch, Mike Folkestad, Brett Hite, Tim Klinger, Justin Lucas, Rusty Salewske, Zack Thompson, Jonathan Walker; National Guard "Fun Zone" activities; and live music by the SRP "Second Shift" band in the evening. The newly formed Payson Chapter of Amnesty International will hold its regular meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the East West Book Exchange, 100 N. Tonto Street. Payson Old Time Opry on Friday, Sept. 24 at the Payson High School Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the Payson Parks & Rec or the Chamber of Commerce. Produced in conjunction with the 40th Annual Old Time Fiddlers Arizona State Championship, this first Annual Live Concert is bound to entertain you from start to finish.  Featured at this event will be the hottest bluegrass band in Arizona, Providence Bluegrass.  Backing them up is one of the most popular Old Time Western groups in Arizona, The Desert Sons.  An old time opry would not be complete without a little gospel and this year's event will feature Brush Arbor Revival.  Come experience this old time music smorgasbord.

40th Anniversary Old Time Fiddler's Contest—AZ State Championship on Saturday, Sept. 25 and Sunday, Sept. 26 at the Payson Event Center. Fall Blood Drive at Best Western Payson Inn, 801 N. Beeline Highway, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the meeting room. United Blood Services needs 700 donations each day to support Arizona hospitals. Blood for hospital patients can only come from volunteer (non-paid donors). Thirty eight percent of the population is eligible to give blood but in Arizona, only three percent donate. If you cannot donate, please help us get the word out regarding this life-saving mission.
